Tyler Shrout will be entering his third season as the pitching coach for the Lipscomb Bisons.

Before joining the Bisons staff in 2010, Shrout spent three seasons with Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, Ala.

Last season Shrout directed a Bisons staff that ranked 14th best in the nation averaging 8.2 strikeouts per nine innings played.  The squad also posted a 4.90 team earned run average, down from 7.54 in his first season and 6.21 in 2009.

Under Shrout's tutelage  in 2010 Josh Smith, a senior right handed pitcher for the Bisons, led the way for the Bisons in his final season with 124 strikeouts. Smith went on to be drafted in the 21st round by the Cincinnati Reds.

While at Birmingham Southern in 2009 the team finished with a 28-11 record, winning the Eastern Division Championship in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in NCAA Division III. The pitching staff, which consisted primarily of freshmen and sophomores, posted a 3.66 earned run average, first in the conference and 18th in NCAA Division III.

His other responsibilities at Birmingham-Southern included camp director, recruiting, arranging team travel, checking academic progress and field maintenance.

Shrout oversaw a 40 percent increase in camp enrollment for both 2008 and 2009. The team also finished with a 3.04 grade point average with 24 players earning a 3.0 or higher.

Shrout has also served as head coach of the Bama Bombers Select Senior team for the past two seasons.

From 2002-2006 Shrout played baseball at Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky. He was a two-time First Team All-Heartland Conference selection as a pitcher. He holds records at Transylvania for lowest earned run average, most strikeouts and most innings pitched in a single season. He also was part of Transylvania's transition from NAIA to NCAA Division III and helped lead the team to its first ever conference tournament.

Shrout earned a B.A. degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Transylvania in 2006.
