If it hadn't been for baseball Arthur Gardner would not have gone to Lipscomb University. But the former shortstop, known across campus as "Tubby", came to Lipscomb and received a degree in business. He will be one of the attendees at a baseball reunion Thursday night on campus.

Sporting a 2-1 mark with a 4.07 ERA, former Lipscomb pitcher Hunter Brothers has been named a 2014 Pioneer League All-Star. The right-hander has made a team-high 15 appearances out of the bullpen.

Members of the Lipscomb baseball team have been staying busy this summer as 10 players have spent their time playing in summer collegiate wood bat leagues across the country, ranging from Washington, Pennsylvania to Leesburg, Florida to Chugiak, Alaska. Here is an update for July 23rd.

Three Lipscomb baseball players have been selected for the Sunbelt League All-Star Game, to be played Saturday, July 11 at 5 p.m. at Oglethorpe University. Pitcher Jamie Young and infielders Tyler Brown and Andrew Knell, all of the Brookhaven Bucks, were all selected to the Eastern Division All-Stars.

Former Lipscomb pitcher Nick Andros will head West to continue his baseball career. The southpaw from Tunnell Hill, Illinois signed a free agent contract with the Kansas City Royals and will begin his career in Rookie ball with the Arizona League Royals in Surprise, Arizona.

Jorge Gutierrez only played baseball for one year at Lipscomb, but what a year it was. With Gutierrez at shortstop the Bisons won the Atlantic Sun Tournament and then upset Georgia, the host school, in the first game of the NCAA Regional in Athens. He spent time talking with this week.

Larry Nesbitt was named the Tennessean All-Midstate Baseball Coach of the Year for directing Christ Presbyterian Academy to the Class AA state championship in the TSSAA. He talked with about his honor as well as his time as a Bisons baseball player.

Former Lipscomb pitcher Josh Smith (’10) is scheduled to make his Major League Baseball debut on Tuesday. He joins the Cincinnati Reds and will get the start against the Pittsburgh Pirates. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. and the contest will air on Fox Sports Ohio (FSO), WLW 700 radio and MLB.TV.

For the third time in school history the Atlantic Sun Conference selected Lipscomb’s Ken Dugan Field at Stephen L. Marsh Stadium to serve as the host site for the 2016 Atlantic Sun Baseball Championship May 25-28, announced by the league office on Tuesday.
