The Bisons beat the Camels of Campbell University 6-3 on Monday morning in their last home game of the season.
The Bisons jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after Mitchell crushed a two-run homer to right center field. The Bisons added another run in the third inning after Embrey slapped a solo homer to right field. The Bisons would stretch their lead out after a three-run fourth inning.
With Larry Salefsky on the mound for Campbell in the fourth Patrick O'Rourke singled up the middle. Two batters later David Becker was hit by a pitch. Nick Cleckler reached based on a fielder's choice, scoring O'Rourke. Clecker stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher. Embrey reached first on a throwing error by the third baseman which allowed Cleckler to score. Tadd Brewer then singled to bring Embrey home.
The Camels scored one run in the seventh to make it 6-1 and two more runs in the ninth inning to keep the game close.
Starting right-handed pitcher Brett McCullough threw a solid 6 1/3 innings of work as he scattered five hits and gave up one earned run. McCullough pitched out of a couple of jams by getting some timely double plays turned. McCullough was credited the victory and is now 2-6 on the season and lowered his earned run average to 7.65.
Logan Powell relieved McCullough and threw two innings of work, and gave up zero hits and one run while striking out one. Powell lowered his earned run average to 6.23.
Senior Seth Kuwik closed out the game as he threw 2/3s of an inning and gave up two hits and one earned run and struck out one batter.
Mitchell led the way offensively for the Bisons as he went 2-for-4 at the plate and scored one run and drove in two. Mitchell hit his eighth home run of the season and leads the team in home runs. Mitchell improved his batting average to .301.
Embrey went 2-for-3 at the plate and recorded his first homerun as a Bison. Embrey also scored three runs and drove in one. Embrey is now batting .258 on the season.
The Bisons improved their record to 22-30, and 7-20 in the A-Sun. The Camels fell to 23-27, and 11-16 in the A-Sun. The Bisons left six runners on base, the Camels left seven runners on base.
The Bisons scored six runs off of eight hits and committed one error. The Camels scored three runs on seven hits and committed two errors.
The Bisons will travel to Knoxville, TN tomorrow night as they play the University of Tennessee of the Southeastern Conference at 7:00 p.m.
