JACKSONVILLE, Fla. _ The Lipscomb Bisons came away from North Florida Sunday afternoon with an 11-7 win, preventing a sweep of the series and keeping their postseason hopes alive.
The Bisons pounded 13 hits, highlighted by a three-run homer from Zac Miller, to snap a six-game winning streak for North Florida on Senior Day at Harmon Stadium.
Miller's home run, his eighth of the season, cleared the left center field fence to give the Bisons a 3-0 first inning lead. Bolden opened the game with a single up the middle and Brewer was hit by a pitch to set up Miller's homer.
North Florida came back to tie the game with three runs in the second. They added one run in both the fifth and sixth innings and two runs in the eighth, but never took the lead.
The Bisons went ahead 4-3 with one run in the third. Brewer reached base to lead off the inning on a throwing error by the shortstop. Mitchell singled through the right side to keep his hitting alive at 19 games. Both Brewer and Mitchell advanced a base on a ground out to the shortstop by Miller. Nathan Sensing hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Brewer.
The Bisons scored two runs in both t he fifth and sixth innings.
In the fifth Mitchell walked. The next two batters made outs. Sensing singled up the middle. Joseph doubled to center field scoring both Mitchell and Sensing.
With one out in the sixth Brewer was hit by a pitch and then moved to second on a wild pitch. Mitchell singled through the right side to score Brewer. With two outs Eric Abend singled to the shortstop sending Mitchell home.
In the seventh the Bisons added another run. Joseph was hit by a pitch to start the inning. He went to second on a sacrifice bunt to the catcher by Whit Reed. Bolden tripled to left field to score Joseph.
Mitchell slammed his seventh home run of the season with a solo shot to center field to start the eighth inning. With one out Abend singled through the left side. David Becker came in as a pinch runner for Abend. Joseph singled to right field scoring Becker.
Josh Smith started for the Bisons, pitching 1.2 innings. He gave up three runs, one earned, on two hits while walking two and striking out one.
Paul Piennette came on in relief. He pitched 3.2 innings, allowing six hits and two runs, one earned. He walked two. Piennette picked up the win raising his record to 3-4.
Brandon McClurg threw 1.2 innings giving up three hits and two unearned runs. He struck out three and walked one. Ryan Carroll shut down North Florida in the final two innings on no hits and one strikeout for his second save of the season.
North Florida had 11 hits in the game.
The Bisons travel to Tennessee Tech Tuesday for their final regular season road game. They complete the regular season Thursday and Friday with a three-game Atlantic Sun series with Jacksonville at Stephen L. Marsh Field at Ken Dugan Stadium.
