The Bisons' used timely hits and strong relief pitching to defeat Tennessee Tech 9-6 on Tuesday, April 10.
After the Golden Eagles jumped ahead with two runs in the first, the Bisons rebounded with two of their own in the bottom of the inning.
Ben Williams got the Bisons started with a walk before promptly stealing second. Casey Bond followed with a single to left, advancing Williams to third, and setting up Caleb Joseph to drive in the Bisons' first run of the game with an RBI single. Ryan Wilkins would drive in the second run with a ground-out to third.
The Golden Eagles retook the lead with a run in the second, third, and fourth innings.
In 3.1 innings, Bowling gave up five runs, four earned, on six hits in the no-decision.
The Bisons tied the game once again with two runs in the third. With one out, Joseph and Wilkins drew back to back walks. Both runners would advance on a wild pitch to put runners on second and third. After Justin Sanders struck out, Andrew Nickerson came threw with a two-out, two-run single up the middle to knot the game at four.
The Golden Eagles scored a run in the fourth to pull ahead 5-4, but the Bisons used a four run fifth to take the lead for good. The inning was highlighted by RBI singles from Wilkins and Simpkins. Nickerson drove in another run with a sacrifice fly and Wilkins scored on a wild pitch.
Casey Bond drilled a sole home run to left center, his fourth of the season, to give the Bisons a 9-5 lead.
The Golden Eagles added a run in the ninth, but the Bisons held on to win 9-6.
Smithson earned the win to improve to 4-3. In 5.2 innings he gave up one run on three hits while striking out five.
Bond and Joseph led the Bisons' in hits with two each while Nickerson contributed a hit and three RBIs.
The Bisons' are back in action when they travel to Johnson City, TN to take on ETSU in a three game series on April 13-15.
