In his second start as a Bison, left-hander Mike Dunn was impressive, throwing the Bisons first complete game of the season, in a 7-2 victory over Belmont.
The Bisons got on the board early, using a homerun by Jorge Gutierrez to take a 1-0 lead in the third. They added to their lead in the fourth on an RBI double by Wilkins and an RBI single by Shane Simpkins, bringing the score to 3-0.
The scoring continued in the seventh, after Gutierrez and Caleb Joseph both drove in a run on a sacrifice fly.
The Bisons increased their lead to 7-0 in the ninth, on an error and an RBI double by Joseph.
Meanwhile, Dunn kept the Bruins offense off balance all day, taking a shut-out into the ninth, before Belmont finally got to him for two runs. He struck out seven in the shut-out win, his first victory of the season.
"I think it was important for me to come out and give our team a chance to win today," Dunn said. "It was the rubber match of the series and we really needed a win. I just came out to compete, hit my spots, make Belmont hit the ball, and ended up coming out with a big win."
The win gave the Bisons their first series win of the season, and improved their record to 2-1 in conference play. They are now 4-3 on the season.
Lipscomb will be back in action when they travel to Bowling Green, KY, to take on Western Kentucky on March 4, at 3 p.m.
