Major League baseball is still going strong, but summer collegiate baseball leagues are over and participants are back on their college campuses.

Lipscomb pitcher Kyle Tognazzini returned to his home state of California and played for the San Luis Obispo Rattlers in the California Collegiate League. He earned All-League honors as a relief pitcher and was second in the league in the “Best Control” category.

Tognazzini, a senior this season with the Bisons, was 2-0 with an 0.00 earned run average. His seven saves tied for the league lead. He made 18 appearances, pitching 22 innings. He gave up nine hits, struck out 29 and walked five.

Junior pitcher Rex Brothers returned to the Cape Cod League for the second year in a row, pitching this summer for the Falmouth Commodores in Massachusetts. Brothers was 1-4 with a 4.25 ERA. He pitched in 11 games, starting seven. In 36 innings he gave up 37 hits, 24 runs (17 earned), 29 bases on balls and 48 strikeouts.

Pitcher Jerry Young, a senior, pitched for the Morganton Aggies in North Carolina in the Southern Collegiate League. He posted a 1-2 record and a 4.91 ERA. He gave up eight hits, walked 12 and struck out 18 batters in 11 innings. He appeared in nine games, all in a relief role. Opponents batted .195 against him.

Brandon McClurg, a senior, pitched this summer for the Bethesda Big Train in the Cal Ripken Senior College League in Maryland.

McClurg finished 2-3 with a 3.93 ERA. He made seven appearances, all as a starter. In 34.1 innings he gave up 39 hits, 21 runs (15 earned) and 11 bases on balls while striking our 15.
