Sunday, February 22, 2009The Bisons lost 5-3 Sunday afternoon at Georgia Tech to close out the three-game series with the No. 12-rated Yellow Jackets.
The Bisons struck first with two outs in the second inning. Branden Cadavid doubled down the right field line. Tyler Wilson then doubled through the middle to bring in Cadavid.
Georgia Tech came back with three runs in the bottom of the second.
In the fifth the Bisons cut the Georgia Tech lead to one run. Cadavid opened the inning with a single to center field. Wilson followed with a single down the left field line. Cadavid and Wilson both advanced on a sacrifice bunt. Allen Bolden hit a sacrifice fly to left field that allowed Cadavid to cross the plate.
The Bisons tied the game 3-3 in the ninth inning. Cadavid started off with a single to left center. Wilson moved him to second on a sacrifice bunt.
Bolden singled to the third baseman and Cadavid scored on a throwing error by the third baseman.
Cadavid's four hits are a team season high.
With two outs in the ninth, Georgia Tech’s Thomas Nichols knocked a two-run home run to end the game.
Josh Smith opened on the mound for the Bisons. He gave up five hits and three runs, all earned, in five innings. He walked five and struck out four.
Matt Bowling threw 1.2 innings. He gave up one hit and three walks.
Kyle Tognazzini closed out the game. He gave up two hits and two runs and struck out one to take the loss.
The Bisons, 0-3, travel to Auburn Tuesday.
