Wednesday, February 16, 2011

Charles Caudill is the head of the World Christian Broadcasting Corporation, which serves three different languages and is continuously expanding. He took some time with lipscombsports.com t talk about his time playing baseball at Lipscomb.

What sport did you play at Lipscomb? What years? Who were your coaches?

“I played baseball for four years from 1956 – 1959. My coaches were Charles Morris my freshman, sophomore and junior years, and Archie Crenshaw was the coach my senior year.”

What is your fondest athletic memory at Lipscomb?

“It is difficult to choose only one. We won a lot of games and lost a few, but the most important memory is of the guys I played with. I remember them all fondly and now that I am back in the Nashville area, I get to see some of them occasionally.”

Who had the biggest influence on you during your athletic career at Lipscomb? How?

“Jennings Davis. He was the Athletic director at the time and was responsible for my coming to Lipscomb and not going somewhere else. He also officiated when Kathy and I were married.”

What is your fondest non-athletic memory from your time at Lipscomb?

“I wish I could say it was my prowess in the classroom. My friends know better than that. I have great memories of dorm life and especially roommates Herb Taylor and Phil Hargis, both athletes. I also have great memories of much time spent at the drug store drinking really bad coffee.”

What is the most valuable thing you gained or learned from your time at Lipscomb?

“The lessons I learned from some outstanding Bible professors have served as the compass for my life since graduation. Men like Dr. Baxter, Willard Collins, Dr. Stroop and Jennings Davis taught principles that remain with me some 50 years later.”

Who was your favorite professor? Why?

“I could name several, but I will name two whose instruction continues to influence my work today. They are Dr. Sue Berry, English, and Col. Murray J. Martin, Economics.”

Where do you live now?

Goodlettsville, Tenn. My e-mail address is ccaudill@worldchristian.org.

Who is your employer? What is your occupation? What does your position entail?

We broadcast from Alaska in the Russian, Chinese and English languages and we are building another station in Madagascar. Both stations will enable us to reach the entire world and with the new station we will add Arabic, African, Spanish and Portuguese Language Services.”
