ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – After an impressive 2011 season with Class-A Dayton, former Lipscomb baseball standout Josh Smith has been nominated for a MiLBY (Minor League Baseball Yearly) award for "Class A Best Starter".
A 2010 draftee by the Cincinnati Reds, Smith led the Midwest League with a 14-7 record and 166 strikeouts. The second-year pro posted a 2.97 ERA and walked only 33 batters in 142.1 innings pitched.
Voting for the award is open until Oct 20.
