NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Fresh off opening the 2013 road slate with a win at Middle Tennessee on Wednesday afternoon, the Lipscomb baseball team hits the road this weekend for the first road series of the season at No. 7 Ole Miss starting on Friday night at 6:30 p.m.
The series marks the second time in the past three seasons that the Bisons (6-7) have made the trek to Swayze Field at Oxford-University Stadium to take on the Rebels (13-1).
Friday night’s contest is slated to be a matchup between Lipscomb senior righty Josh Cotham and Ole Miss junior righthander Bobby Wahl. Cotham enters the weekend with a 1-1 record, and an 8.79 ERA in 14.1 innings of work while Wahl boasts a 4-0 mark with a 2.70 ERA through 16.2 innings worked.
The Saturday afternoon contest is slated to be another battle of rightys as Lipscomb senior Davey Hackett is set to go against Mike Mayers. Hackett sports a 1-2 mark on the season with a 5.68 ERA in 12.2 innings of work while Mayers is 1-0 with a 2.04 ERA in 17.2 innings on the mound.
The right handed trend continues on Sunday as sophomore righthanders Will Blalock and Sam Smith will close out the three-game set. Blalock leads Lipscomb with a 2.65 ERA in 17 innings of work, while Smith is 2-0 on the season with a 1.46 ERA in 12.1 innings thrown.
Lipscomb heads into the series looking for the first win in the history of the series with the Rebels as Ole Miss swept the 2011 series.
