JACKSONVILLE, Fla.  – Putting up four spots in the fifth and seventh innings, the Lipscomb baseball team downed homestanding Atlantic Sun foe Jacksonville 8-2 on Saturday afternoon at John Sessions Stadium in Jacksonville.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, the Bisons (9-14, 20-31 A-Sun) stormed back with a quartet of runs in the fifth.  Freshman second baseman Austin Sistrunk got things started with a single down the left field line before senior right fielder Lee Wilson singled up the middle to put two aboard.

Senior catcher Taylor Stewart kept the momentum going with a single to left bringing Sistrunk across the plate. Senior shortstop Aaron Sandoval followed with a three-run blast to left field to give the Bisons a 3-2 lead over the Dolphins (17-33, 8-15 A-Sun).

Lipscomb kept the offense going in the seventh as singles by Wilson and Sandoval surrounded a walk by junior designated hitter Drew Adams as the Bisons loaded the bases.  That set the table for junior left fielder Chad Shannon who laced a two-out double down the left field line to score both Wilson and Adams.

Senior center fielder Zach Lowery capped off the scoring in the contest a batter later with a single scoring both Sandoval and Shannon to make it an 8-2 advantage for the Purple and Gold.

Senior southpaw Blake Fonfara picked up the win in relief of freshman starter Denton Norman.  Fonfara tossed two full innings allowing one hit and one walk.  Norman worked four complete on the afternoon scattering eight hits and giving up two earned runs.

The Bisons also got a scoreless inning out of senior reliever Jordan Zelhart and two empty frames from fellow senior Tyler Burstrom.

The series concludes on Sunday afternoon with a rubber game in the “River City.’  First pitch is slated for 11 a.m.
