Brandon McClurg, a standout pitcher-outfielder at Hendersonville High School, has signed to play baseball at Lipscomb University.

McClurg is a third-team 2005 All-Midstate selection by The Tennessean. He was named Player of the Year in Sumner County for 2005 by the Gallatin News-Examiner. He was double threat on the mound and at the plate.

"The thing you can say about Brandon is that he is an incredible baseball player," said Hendersonville Coach Mike Hendrix to Ethan Greer of the News-Examiner. "But even more than that he is an even better person and a great individual.

"He did a great job at the plate and on the mound for us this year. I am so glad he was on our side."

In 2004 McClurg was First Team All-County, First Team All-District 9-AAA and First Team All-Region. In 2003 he was Second Team All-County. In 2001 he was awarded MVP honors by the Old Timers' Baseball Association.

McClurg plans to major in mechanical engineering.

His academic accomplishments include being named in 2005 to Who's Who Among American High School Students. He was a finalist in 2004 for the Tennessee Honors Program. He also was the 2004 VFW "Voice of Democracy" essay contest winner.
