Box Score

Once again, dominant pitching led to a win for the Bisons. The Bisons extended their win streak to four on Tuesday, March 7 in a 7-1 victory against Samford, in Birmingham, Alabama.

Robbie Smithson got the start for the Bisons, his first of the year.

The Bisons wasted no time in getting on the board. The first batter of the game, Tadd Brewer was hit by a pitch. Ryan Mitchell followed with a single down the left field line advancing Brewer to third. However, Brewer would be thrown out at the plate after the next batter, Zac Miller, grounded into a fielder's choice. With two outs, Justin Sanders doubled to right center, plating two runs and giving the Bisons a 2-0 lead.

It was all the run support Smithson would need. In 6.1 innings of work, Smithson gave up just one earned run on four hits and three walks. He struck out four.

The Bisons added two more runs in the top of the sixth. Zac Miller led off the inning with a single to left field. After Ryan Price reached on an error, Justin Sanders was hit by a pitch. Jeff Baumgartner followed with a bunt single to make the score 3-0. The next batter, Patrick O'Rourke, hit a sacrifice fly to center to score the Bisons fourth run of the game.

The Bulldogs scored their only run of the game in the seventh inning on an RBI fielder's choice by Luke Peavy.

Charles Williams came on in relief of Smithson in the seventh and closed out the game. In 2.2 innings, Williams gave up just two hits and a walk. He struck out four.

The Bisons added three more runs in the ninth to complete the scoring.

With the win, Smithson's record improved to 2-0.

The Bisons take the field again on March 10, when they return to Ken Dugan Field to take on East Tennessee at 4 p.m.
