Despite racking up 12 hits, the Bisons could not hold on to an early 3-0 lead, on their way to a 9-8 loss at Tennessee-Martin on Wednesday, April 19.
The Bisons wasted no time getting on the board. Nathan Sensing led off the game with a double to right field. Tadd Brewer followed with a bunt single, advancing Sensing to third. Ryan Mitchell was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Zac Miller who responded with a two-run double. The Bisons scored their third run of the inning on an RBI single by Whit Reed.
Brandon McClurg got the start for Lipscomb. In four innings he gave up just two hits in a no-decision.
The Skyhawks tied the game with three runs in the fifth.
The Bisons regained the lead with three more runs in the sixth. With one out Reed walked. One out later, Preston Embrey was hit by a pitch putting runners at first and second with two outs. Sensing followed with an RBI single to left, giving the Bisons a 4-3 lead. The Bisons added two more runs in the inning, courtesy of two Skyhawk errors.
Tennessee-Martin retook the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth. The Skyhawks used four hits and three walks to plate six runs.
The Bisons attempted to mount a comeback, scoring runs in both the seventh and ninth innings, but could not retake the lead.
Senior Ryan Carroll received the loss to bring his record to 0-1.
Sensing led the offense with three hits. Brewer, Miller, and Reed each added two hits.
With the loss, the Bisons' record dropped to 16-20. They return to action on April 21 when they travel to Charleston, SC to take on Charleston Southern in the first game of a three game weekend series.
