Bisons sign JUCO standout from Kentucky

Outfielder Shane Simpkins from Paintsville, Ky., has signed to play baseball for the Lipscomb Bisons.

Simpkins, 6-foot-2, 205 pounds, has starred for two seasons at St. Catharine College in Bardstown, Ky. This past season he played in 45 games, batting .381, second best on the team. He had 13 doubles, six triples and three home runs. He was second on the team in runs batted in with 42.

In 2005 he batted .356 with 11 doubles, four triples and five home runs. He led the team in RBI with 58 in 48 games.

Prior to the start of the 2006 season Simpkins was named as a "Player to Watch" by "Collegiate Baseball" magazine.

In 2005 he was named to the NJCAA All-Southeast District Team. He was also a member of the NJCAA All-Region Team.

At Paintsville High School Simpkins was a versatile athlete with three letters in football, three in basketball and four in baseball. As a junior basketball player he was invited to participate in the 2002 Cage Scope/High Potential "Blue Chip" Basketball Camp.

Simpkins plans to major in Biology. He is the son of Connie Woods and Rick Simpkins.
