Wednesday, May 31, 2006 May 31, 2006 Lipscomb University first baseman Ryan Mitchell became the first athlete from the department in the NCAA era to earn a spot on the first team for the ESPN The Magazine 2006 Academic All-America Teams selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Mitchell, from Andalusia, Ala., was named to the District IV All-Academic First Team, making him eligible for the national honor. Mitchell is a senior with a 4.0 in Biology with a minor in chemistry. He led the Bisons in hitting with a .341 average. He was second on the team in home runs with seven, doubles with 13 and slugging percentage (.517). He also had a .988 fielding percentage. He was also named the offensive MVP for 2006. Mitchell was also named to the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Academic Team. |
