Lipscomb University baseball coach Jeff Forehand has announced the signing of Ryan Wilkins from Mount Juliet, Tenn.

Wilkins, 6-foot-5, 210 pounds, was a standout first baseman for Pope John Paul II High School. He led the state in hitting in 2006 with a .590 average. He was an All-State selection in 2005. He was an All-Regional pick in 2005 and 2006. He was named first team All-Sumner County by the Hendersonville Star News. Wilkins served as team captain in 2006.

Wilkins also lettered in football in 2005 and 2006.

He is the first baseball player from Pope John Paul II High School to sign an NCAA Division I scholarship.

"I decided to attend Lipscomb because it offers so many great opportunities academically, athletically and spiritually," said Wilkins.

He is the son of Mina and Greg Wilkins. He is undecided on a major.
