The Bisons could not recover from an Eagles' five-run first, as they fell 9-1 to Georgia Southern on Friday, March 16.

Eagles' starter, right-hander Drew Murray, kept the Bisons offense off-balance throughout the game, giving up just one run in the second inning, while throwing a complete game.

Casey Bond led off the second with a single up the middle, before moving to second on a groundout by Shane Simpkins. Ryan Wilkins followed with a single to right, scoring Bond, for Lipscomb's only run of the game.

Bisons' starter, Rob Smithson, allowed seven runs in six innings of work to record his first loss of the season, and lower his record to 3-1.

Right-hander, Jerry Young, relieved Smithson to start the seventh and allowed two runs in 1/3 of an inning.

Matt Bowling threw 1.2 scoreless innings to close out the game.

Wilkins led the Bisons on offense with a perfect day at the plate, going 4-4. Joseph added two hits.

The Bisons will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, March 17 when they take on Georgia Southern in game two of the weekend series. The game is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m.

Left-hander Rex Brothers is expected to make the start for the Bisons. On the season, he is 4-1 with a 4.15 ERA. In 26 innings, he has given up 16 runs, while striking out 25. Opponents are batting just .184 against him.
