Final Stats

The Lipscomb baseball squad dropped game two of a three game series vs. the Jacksonville Dolphins on Friday evening but because cross-state rival East Tennessee State was swept by Mercer, the Bisons secured a spot in the 2007 A-Sun Championship Presented by Progress Energy.

The Bisons wasted no time getting on the board in the first as the leadoff batter Ben Williams reached on a walk and scored on a single by Casey Bond, but, the Dolphins answered in the top as the Dolphin leadoff batter, John Tiner, also reached on a walk, and was hit in by a double to right field by the Jacksonville first baseman Ryan McArdle.

The Dolphins jumped ahead in the bottom of the fifth: third baseman Thomas LePage being hit by Bison pitcher Rex Brothers to reach, and scoring on a balk by Brothers. Neither team would score the rest of the evening, but the one run would be enough to shut down the Bisons.

Brothers received the start and pitched five innings, striking out five, only allowing two hits and one earned run. Junior Chris Burnett pitched two innings of relief, only allowing one hit and no runs. Senior John King closed out the game, pitching one inning.

"It was a good baseball game," said head coach Jeff Forehand, "I'm disappointed we lost because we had so many opportunities. When you leave thirteen runners on base and strike out twelve times, things just won't go your way."

The Bisons drop to 28-27, and Rex Brothers drops to 7-4 for the season.

The Bisons will close out the series and the regular season tomorrow vs. Jacksonville at 12:00 Noon CST, and then head to Deland, Florida for the championship which will be hosted by Stetson University and held Melching Field at Conrad Park, May 23-26.
