A three hour rain delay was worth the wait for the Bisons, who shut-out Jacksonville, the first place team in the Atlantic Sun 10-0 on Saturday.
Right-hander Brandon McClurg was called upon to receive his first start of the season, and he did not disappoint the Lipscomb fans in attendance who came out and braved the rainy weather.
The Bisons wasted no time getting on the board, scoring a run on an RBI fielder's choice by Blake Bratcher in the first.
The Bisons increased their lead to 4-0 in the second, on an RBI single by Branden Cadavid and an RBI double by Jorge Gutierrez, who later in the inning came around to score on a throwing error by the Dolphin's third baseman, Dan Maier.
In the third inning, the Bisons didn't lose any momentum, plating another run on Cadavid's second RBI hit of the day, a double to center field.
The Bisons added to their lead in the fifth, scoring a run on an RBI single by Ryan Wilkins, and another on a sacrifice fly by Cadavid.
The scoring did not stop there however, as the Bisons added another on an infield single by Ben Williams in the seventh, and two more in the eighth, one on an RBI single by Shane Simpkins, and another scoring on another throwing error by Maier.
Meanwhile, McClurg was masterful, giving up just three hits in seven innings of work while striking out nine. Left-hander, Paul Piennette tossed the final two innings for the Bisons, giving up just three hits as well, and keeping the shut-out intact.
McClurg received the win to improve his record to 2-0. So far this season, McClurg has an ERA of 2.00, and opponents are batting just .224 against him.
The Bisons out-hit the Dolphins 11-6. Four Lipscomb hitters recorded two hits in the game, including Justin Sanders, Gutierrez, Williams, and Cadavid. Cadavid also added three RBIs
With the win, the Bisons evened out their record at 7-7, while improving to 5-3 in the conference. The series will conclude with a 1 p.m. start tomorrow, Sunday, March 16.
