The Bisons could not close out the sweep of Jacksonville on Sunday, as they were defeated 5-3 by the Dolphins in the series finale.
Left-hander, Mike Dunn, received the start for the Bisons. After allowing three runs in the first inning, Dunn settled in, throwing up zeroes in each of his next six innings of work.
The Bisons finally broke through against Dolphins' left-hander, Matt Dobbins in the sixth. With the bases loaded, Ryan Wilkins came through for Lipscomb with a single through the left side. The next batter, Justin Sanders, brought home the Bisons second run of the game on a fielder's choice. The Bisons had a chance to tie the score with the bases loaded and only one out, but after the Dolphins got Channing Brown to strike out, Branden Cadavid flied out to center to end the inning.
The Dolphins got two of their runs back in the top of the eighth to widen their lead to 5-2. However, Caleb Joseph pulled the Bisons a little closer in the bottom of the inning, drilling a solo homer to center field to bring Lipscomb to within two, but that is as close as they would get.
The Bisons were limited to only six hits in the game, with no player recording more than one.
Dunn received the loss to drop his record to 1-1. In 7.1 innings he gave up five runs on nine hits while striking out six. He was relieved by Kyle Tognazzini in the eighth. Tognazzini finished out the game for the Bisons, giving up just 2 hits in 1.1 innings.
With the loss, the Bisons dropped their record to 7-8, 5-4 in the conference. They will be back in action on Tuesday, March 18, when they take on the University of Tennessee at Ken Dugan Field.
