Final Stats

After defeating Murray State in a close 4-3 game on Tuesday, the Bisons could not hold on to an early 3-0 lead on Wednesday, as they fell 11-6.

The Bisons struck first, scoring three runs in the first inning to take the early lead. Jorge Gutierrez got the Bisons going with a single down the left field line. After Allen Bolden walked, Caleb Joseph drilled his fifth home run of the season to center field, giving the Bisons a 3-0 lead.

However, Murray State got to Bisons' starter Jerry Young in the bottom of the inning, plating five runs, bringing the score to 5-3.

Murray State struck for two more runs in the second, prompting Bisons' head coach Jeff Forehand, to call on right-hander Taylor Merry in relief. In an inning of work, Young gave up seven runs, four earned, on two hits, while walking three.

Merry got out of the inning, giving up one run of his own. He held Murray State scoreless over the next three innings, allowing the Bisons offense to pull a little closer.

The Bisons narrowed the deficit to 8-5 in the fifth, scoring two runs, one on an RBI single by Ryan Wilkins and another on a fielder's choice off the bat of Shane Simpkins.

Murray State added to their lead in the eighth, scoring three runs against Bisons' reliever, Charles Williams to stretch their lead to 8-5.

The Bisons pulled to 11-6 in the ninth on a solo home run by Joseph, his sixth of the season, but that was as close as they would get.

Young received the loss to drop his record to 0-1. Joseph led the team on offense, going 4-5 with four RBIs, and three runs scored. Ben Williams also added three hits in the loss.

The Bisons will return to action when they welcome Kennesaw state to Dugan Field on Friday, March 28. The game is scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m.
