Friday, April 18, 2008 April 18, 2008 The Lipscomb Bisons beat USC Upstate 9-5 Friday night in Spartanburg, S.C., at Harley Park. Kyle Tognazzini threw the final 2 2/3 innings for the Bisons to earn the win. He did not allow a run and struck out two. The Bisons rapped out 15 hits with right fielder Shane Simpkins, first baseman Ryan Wilkins and second baseman Ben Williams each collecting three hits. Designated hitter Justin Sanders, third baseman Branden Cadavid and Williams each drove in a pair of runs. Sanders was the big hitter with both a home run and a double. Catcher Caleb Joseph hit his 12th home run of the season. Center fielder Allen Bolden also added a home run. Rex Brothers opened for the Bisons, allowing five runs and 10 hits while striking out eight in 5.1 innings. Chris Burnette pitched a scoreless inning before Tognazzini closed out the game. The Bisons are 21-16 overall, 15-7 in the A-Sun. USC Upstate is 18-21, 11-11. The two teams meet Saturday for a doubleheader. |
