Wednesday, April 08, 2009The Bisons ended a 10-game road string with a 17-3 loss to the University of Tennessee Wednesday night at Lindsey Nelson Stadium in Knoxville.
The Vols, 13-20, opened the game with five runs in the first inning. They added six runs in the third, one in the fifth, one in the seventh and four in the eighth.
Charles Williams started for the Bisons. He pitched three innings and gave up eight runs on eight hits while striking out one and walking three. Matt Bowling pitched three innings. He allowed four hits and four runs and struck out two. Josh Cotham relieved Bowling and was touched for four hits and one run in two innings. He also struck out three and walked one. Kyle Tognazzini closed out the game and gave up three hits and four runs in one inning.
The Vols had 19 hits, including two home runs.
The Bisons scored one run in the third inning and two in the eighth.
Jay Moreland hit a home run to left field to open the third inning. It was his first home run of the season.
In the eighth Clay Lehning singled to center. Antonio Butler hit a single through the left side. Tyler Wilson singled to score Lehning. M.L. Williams reached on an infield single to load the bases. Justin Sanders hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring Butler home.
The Bisons collected seven hits with M.L. Williams and Wilson each getting two hits. One of the hits by M.L. Williams was a double.
The Bisons, 13-19, are back home at Ken Dugan Field at Stephen L. Marsh Stadium when North Florida visits for a three-game Atlantic Sun series. Friday night’s game starts at 6. A doubleheader begins Saturday at 1.
