Brothers on his way to Washington state
Former Lipscomb pitching standout Rex Brothers was on the road to Pasco, Wash., Friday where he will take the first steps of his professional career as a member of the Tri-City Dust Devils.

The Dust Devils, a Class A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, play in the Northwest League. The team is owned by George Brett, a Hall of Fame baseball player with the Kansas City Royals.

Brothers, selected 34th overall in the June Major League First Year Player Draft, signed with the Rockies earlier this week. He received a $969,000 signing bonus. His deal also includes provisions to pay for the remainder of his school expenses. Brothers, a resident of Chapel Hill, Tenn., left Lipscomb after his junior year.

Tuesday he flew to Denver where he underwent a battery of physical examinations, including an MRI on his left shoulder on Wednesday.

He watched the Rockies play the Washington Nationals Wednesday night. He was also in the stands Thursday night when the Rockies played the Atlanta Braves.
