NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Anxious to get the 2012 season underway after a fall semester of conditioning, drills and scrimmages, the Lipscomb baseball team hits Dugan Field on Friday afternoon for the first spring practice of the year.
“The excitement is back for sure as we’re going to jump back on the field this weekend and hopefully get the pitchers back on the mound and get their feet wet and get us back into playing mode,” said Lipscomb head coach Jeff Forehand. “We had a great fall I felt like with a bunch of new faces together with some veterans that are still around.
“Our culture has improved, our work in the weight room has improved and our attention to detail has improved. There’s a different feel to this team compared to where we left off last spring.”
The Bison are slated to hit the field in intrasquad scrimmages on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Dugan Field. Following some practice reps, Lipscomb hits the field for the scrimmage first on Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
“With the way the season is setup, we have three weekends before we jump into a game,” said Forehand. “To give our pitchers and our hitters every opportunity to get the live repetitions, we felt like we would go ahead and jump into it this weekend. “
With all Lipscomb practices open to the public, Saturday’s scrimmage is slated for a Noon start, while Sunday’s event will begin at 1:30 p.m.
The Bison open 2012 hosting three games of the “Mule Mix Classic” on campus. The first contest of the season is slated for Feb. 17 against Saint Louis at 4 p.m. Lipscomb then hosts Evansville on Saturday the 18th before rounding out the round-robin event against Kansas on Sunday.
