Baseball set to be better defensively in 2012

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb baseball team hit the field last weekend for the opening of spring practice in preparation for the Feb. 17 season opener against Saint Louis at Dugan Field at 4 p.m. as part of the inaugural “Mule Mix” classic. had the chance to sit down with Lipscomb head coach Jeff Forehand this week and get his thoughts on a number or topics.  Beginning today, we feature a pair of topics: “On being picked ninth in the Atlantic Sun preseason poll” and “What fans can expect to see different in 2012”.

The Bison will hold open scrimmages this weekend beginning on Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Dugan Field.  Then weather depending, Lipscomb will have two additional intrasquad sessions on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Quick hits:

  • Lipscomb was picked ninth out of 10 teams in the 2012 Atlantic Sun Conference Baseball Preseason Poll released this week. Stetson was a unanimous choice among the other coaches in the league to win the A-Sun regular season.  The Hatters were also picked to win the A-Sun Tournament.
  • Adam Brett Walker from Jacksonville was selected as the A-Sun Preseason Player of the Year, while Kurt Schluter from Stetson was named the A-Sun Preseason Pitcher of the Year.
  • The Bison open at home with seven straight road contests matching up against five different teams from five different conferences.
  • The program will host the first “Forehand and Friends” luncheon of the year on Feb. 16 at 11 a.m.  New York Mets starting pitcher R.A. Dickey will be the featured speaker talking about his recent experience climbing Mt. Killimanjaro. Tickets are $10.  Please rsvp to
