Baseball to play pair against MTSU on Tuesday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Following Sunday's cancellation of the final game of the “Mule Mix Classic” with Kansas, the Lipscomb baseball team will now play a doubleheader against Middle Tennessee State on Tuesday afternoon at Ken Dugan Field at Stephen L. Marsh Stadium in Nashville with a new 3 p.m. first pitch.

Tuesday was originally scheduled for one contest beginning at 4 p.m. but with both team’s losing games to weather on Sunday, the squads decided to make up the games with an easy fix.

“Anytime you can get right back out there it’s great,” said Lipscomb head coach Jeff Forehand. “Unfortunately we couldn’t do it yesterday but with us and MTSU getting rained out yesterday, we get the opportunity to make a game up and play a doubleheader tomorrow.

“Once you’ve started playing you want to continue to play, so it will give our pitchers a chance to get out there and get there innings in and for us to get some good work against a good team. We’re looking forward to getting back out there even though doubleheaders are a long day, we’ll have to be able to do it at some point during the season.”

Both teams went 1-1 on opening weekend with the Bison downing Saint Louis 8-4 on Friday before losing 4-3 to Evansville on Saturday.  The Blue Raiders dropped their season opener to Kansas 7-3 and then notched their own win against Saint Louis 3-2 in 11 innings on Saturday afternoon.

“MTSU is always solid. Pete’s been doing it for a long time and they are always very solid teams. Anytime we play them, we know we’re in for a fight and in for a battle.  They’re in the same boat we’re in right now. Every team at this point of the year needs pitchers to pitch and hitters to get time at the plate to get everything ready for the conference season. “

Riding a two-game winning streak against the Blue Raiders, the Bison will send junior Josh Cotham, who was scheduled to start Sunday’s contest against Kansas, to the hill in game one of the twinbill and follow with redshirt freshman Will Blalock in the nightcap.  MTSU has not announced their starters yet.

Sophomore right fielder Trent Miller leads the Blue Raiders at the dish after hitting .429 on the weekend for MTSU.

Despite winning three of the last five against MTSU, the Bison trail the Blue Raiders 7-14 in the all-time series but Lipscomb holds an even 5-5 mark at Dugan Field.

Both games will be broadcast live on ASun.TV.  Tickets are $5 for ages 13+ and free for those ages 12 and under. Click here to purchase tickets online.
