NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Wrapping up a seven-game homestand, the Lipscomb baseball team welcomes non-conference foe UT Martin to Ken Dugan Field at Stephen L. Marsh Stadium on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. in Nashville.
The Bison (15-17) will send redshirt-freshman right-hander Will Blalock (0-1, 3.54) to the hill in hopes of avenging a 4-3 loss to the Skyhawks (9-22) last month in Martin. UT Martin is expected to start redshirt-junior Brendan Louzupone (0-3, 9.13 ERA), who made the start against the Bison in the previous battle between the two teams. Louzupone went six and two-thirds innings pitched allowing three runs and six hits.
“The next game is always the most important,” said Lipscomb head coach Jeff Forehand. “That’s kind of cliché but with the momentum we’ve built up over the last few weekends, we need to try to keep that going.
“Hopefully, our players understand that this is the next game and is the most important. We need to play better during the middle of the week. Hopefully, that they can see that it’s our next opportunity no matter where it sits in the schedule.”
Blalock was also the Lipscomb starter against UT Martin but did not factor in the decision either after allowing three runs and five hits in six innings of work. The three runs Blalock allowed came two batters after an overturned call allowed a Skyhawk to reach to start the inning.
Since dropping that 4-3 decision at UT Martin, the Bison are 5-2 including a home sweep of ETSU and a series win against Kennesaw State.
Tickets for the game are $5 for those ages 13 and up and free for those ages 12 and under. The game will be broadcast on ASun.TV with Justin Seamon behind the microphone.
