MACON, Ga. – After leading the Lipscomb baseball team to a three-game sweep of league foe Jacksonville, junior third baseman Gray Hutchinson has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week as announced on Monday.
Scoring nearly a third of the Bisons 19 runs on the weekend, Hutchinson crossed the dish six times against the Dolphins. The Sugar Valley, Ga., native went 6-for-11 on the week for a .545 average and led the conference with a 1.091 slugging percentage.
“Gray has been working hard to get his swing going and it definitely showed up last week,” said Lipscomb head coach Jeff Forehand. “We’ve been expecting him to get the bat going and he finally has.”
The junior capped off the weekend with an eighth-inning, three-run blast that proved to be pivotal in Lipscomb’s 6-2 win over Jacksonville on Saturday night.
Hutchinson is the third Bison to receive A-Sun Player of the Week honors this season joining senior infielder Zak Messer and junior shortstop Aaron Sandoval, who each brought home league honors earlier this season.
Lipscomb hosts Tennessee Tech on Tuesday night before wrapping up the 2012 regular season with a three-game set at Belmont beginning on Thursday night at Rose Park.
