Cotham earns pair of A-Sun postseason awards

MACON, Ga. – After finishing the season with a team-best 2.56 ERA, Lipscomb redshirt-junior pitcher Josh Cotham has been named to the All-Atlantic Sun Conference second team and the All-Atlantic Sun Academic team as announced by the league on Tuesday.

“Josh is the epitome of the student- athlete excelling in the classroom and on the field,” said Lipscomb head coach Jeff Forehand. “He’s been one of the backbones of our pitching staff this season and really we’re looking forward to his leadership on the mound and in the dugout next season. His commitment in the weight room and to his training is just like it is in the classroom, second-to-none.”

The crafty righty held opponents to a .236 average at the plate and fanned 72 batters while only walking 21.  The Mount Juliet native was named A-Sun Pitcher of the Week earlier in the month after tossing a four-hit, complete game shutout against Florida Gulf Coast.

Cotham also worked hard in the classroom where the right-hander graduated this spring with a 3.79 in corporate management leading to his selection to the all-academic team.

USC Upstate’s Gaither Bumgardner earned A-Sun Player of the Year honors while FGCU’s Ricky Knapp garnered A-Sun Pitcher of the Year laurels.  Jacksonville’s Dan Gulbransen was named Scholar Athlete of the Year.
