NASHVILLE, Tenn. – With a stroke of the pen, Lipscomb southpaws Chris Nunn and Gil Rehwinkel have joined the ranks of professional baseball.
A week after being chosen in the 24th round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Padres, Nunn signed on with San Diego forgoing his senior season in the “Music City”.
“We are all proud of and happy for Chris,” said Lipscomb head coach Jeff Forehand. “After thinking about his options he decided to sign with the Padres. He has all the tools to be a big league pitcher and we wish him all the best as he pursues his dream of playing professional baseball.”
Rehwinkel meanwhile signed his name on the dotted line with the Gateway Grizzlies an independent team in the Frontier League that makes their home in Sauget, Illinois.
“We are excited for Gil to have the opportunity to sign professionally to play independent baseball,” said Forehand. “He had a great senior season, worked hard and we’re very proud he has the opportunity to continue his baseball career.”
Lipscomb incoming freshman Christian Miller also decided to sign with the Padres after being drafted in the 19th round by San Diego.
