In-state battles set for Bisons midweek

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After four games on the road last week including a three-game set at No. 6 Ole Miss, the Lipscomb baseball team heads to UT-Martin on Tuesday afternoon before returning home on Wednesday to host Austin Peay in a pair of contests against in-state foes.

Lipscomb redshirt junior Jacob Knott will get the start for the Bisons (6-10) against UT-Martin (6-9) on Tuesday on the heels of a solid pitching performance against Middle Tennessee last Wednesday. Knott tossed six innings against the Blue Raiders allowing two runs in the win for the Purple and Gold.

Looking to snap a two-game skid at UT-Martin, Knott will go up against righty John Houston, who has made five appearances for the Skyhawks this season with a 0-3 record and a 10.61 ERA.   Knott is 1-1 with a 4.08 ERA for the Bisons.

Senior southpaw Blake Fonfara is scheduled to take the hill on Wednesday as the Bisons return to Dugan Field.  The start will be the first of the season for the veteran who made a dozen starts in 2012. It will be the second appearance of the season for Fonfara, who has thrown one inning in 2013.

Looking to extend an eight-game winning streak in the series, the Governors (13-2) will send Jared Carkuff to the mound in Wednesday’s game.  The freshman is 0-0 with a 13.50 ERA.
