FORT MYERS, Fla. – Fresh off a midweek tuneup against No. 3 Vanderbilt, the Lipscomb baseball team resumes Atlantic Sun Conference play on Thursday night to open a three-game set at Florida Gulf Coast in Fort Myers.
The Bisons (9-17) enter the contest on the heels of a 4-1 loss against the Dores on Tuesday night. The Eagles (16-5) enter the series red hot as winners of 10 of their last 12 contests behind the top pitching staff in the league.
With the conference taking Sunday off for the Easter Holiday, the series gets underway on Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. as senior righty Davey Hackett is set to battle Ricky Knapp, the A-Sun Preseason Pitcher of the Year. Hackett enters the contest 1-4 with a 6.67 ERA while Knapp is 5-0 with a 1.15 ERA.
Friday night features a meeting between Lipscomb righty Hunter Brothers and FGCU southpaw Brandon Bixler. Brothers is 2-3 on the year with a 7.66 ERA while Bixler ranks just behind Knapp with a 1.71 ERA and a 2-1 record.
The series concludes on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. due to an afternoon flight for the Bisons. Redshirt sophomore Will Blalock will take the hill for Lipscomb against FGCU’s Michael Murray. Blalock is 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA while Murray is 2-1 with a 3.97 ERA.
The Bisons enter the series looking for the first win in Fort Meyers against the Eagles having come up empty in six previous tries. FGCU holds a 10-5 advantage in the series all-time but the Bisons took 2-of-3 from the Eagles in 2012.
