NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – Former Lipscomb catcher Caleb Joseph opened the 2013 Eastern League (AA) All-Star festivities on Tuesday night by winning the home run derby.
The starting backstop for the Bowie Baysox, the AA affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, Joseph turned in a 310-point performance including four home runs to edge out Steven Souza, Jr. of the Harrisburg Senators and claim the crown. Joseph is currently tied for second in the Eastern League lead with 15 home runs at the midpoint of the season.
Players were awarded points by surpassing targets on the field in the amounts of 10, 20, or 30 points and given 40 for homers.
The Eastern League All-Star game is set for Wednesday night at New Britain Stadium, home of the New Britain Rock Cats.
