Baseball entertains Butler in 2015 season-opening series

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Jeff Forehand begins his ninth season at the helm this weekend as Lipscomb baseball opens its 2015 campaign by hosting Butler of the Big East Conference in a three-game set beginning Friday.

The Bisons will be starting their 55-game regular season at Ken Dugan Field at Stephen L. Marsh Stadium for the sixth consecutive season and the 10th time in 12 years.

With temperatures hovering the in lower 30s, Friday’s start time has been moved up to 2 p.m. Game times for Saturday and Sunday are slated for 2 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.

Senior knuckleballer and Preseason Atlantic Sun All-Conference selection Ian Martinez-McGraw will get the ball on Friday and is looking to build off a record-breaking junior campaign that saw the hurler set the school’s NCAA record for wins with nine (9-3, 3.77 ERA).

He also proved to be the league’s workhorse, leading the A-Sun in innings pitched, logging 112.1. Martinez-McGraw will square off against sophomore lefty Jeff Schank who was 1-3 as a freshman with a 4.89 ERA for the Bulldogs.

Lipscomb senior Nick Andros (5-3, 3.28 ERA) is scheduled to get the nod on Saturday as the southpaw makes the transition into the weekend rotation after spending most of 2014 in the bullpen. Andros will face Butler’s junior transfer, Chris Myjak.

Junior righty Denton Norman will once again hold down the Sunday slot after earning second team all-conference honors last season after going 7-6 with a 3.43 ERA. He will battle another Butler junior newcomer, Nick Morton.
