ATLANTA, Ga. - Three Lipscomb baseball players have been selected for the Sunbelt League All-Star Game, to be played Saturday, July 11 at 5 p.m. at Oglethorpe University.
Pitcher Jamie Young and infielders Tyler Brown and Andrew Knell were all selected to the Eastern Division All-Stars after putting together impressive summers with the Brookhaven Bucks.
Young was selected as one of the 11 pitchers on the roster after going 2-1 with a 3.73 ERA. He has appeared in six games, making three starts. In 21.2 innings pitched Young has struck out 23 and walked just six.
Against the Alpharetta Braves on June 20, the lefty punched out a summer-high eight batters.
Brown enters the break batting .193 with 11 hits in 57 plate appearances. He has two home runs and eight RBI in 17 games played. The rising sophomore has also scored six runs, drew four walks and swiped two bags.
Brown tallied a summer-best three hits on June 27 against the Gwinnett Tides.
Knell, a transfer from Tennessee Tech, has seen action in 16 games and is batting .208. In 48 at-bats the shortstop has 10 hits, one home run, one triple, two doubles, eight RBI, eight walks and two stolen bases.
The Sunbelt League, which features recent high school graduates and college players from around the state, is made up of eight teams.
The All-Star game will pit players from the Western Division against the Eastern Division. Players will showcase their talents in front of scouts during batting practice beginning at 3:30 p.m. The top four home runs hitters in each division will then participate in a Home Run Derby at 5:30 p.m. The evening will conclude with the All-Star game.
