Baseball's Gigliotti, Passantino named Preseason All-Conference by Perfect Game

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb sophomores Michael Gigliotti and Jeffrey Passantino were both named to the Perfect Game Preseason All-Atlantic Sun team Monday as part of the publication’s conference preview.

Gigliotti was honored as one of the conference’s top three returning outfielders, while Passantino was recognized as one of the top four starting pitchers. Both sophomores were voted by the league’s coaches to the All-Conference second team following the 2015 season.

Gigliotti, who has already been named preseason All-Conference by the Atlantic Sun, is the top returning hitter on the Bisons squad. The Fort Lauderdale, Florida native batted .332 as a freshman to go along with 78 hits, 51 runs, 28 RBI, five doubles, five home runs and three triples. He was also named a Louisville Slugger and NCBWA Freshman All-American last season after leading the nation with 22 bunt singles.

He also swiped 17 stolen bases and drew 25 walks. He will bring a 32-game on-base streak into 2016.

Passantino, who was also named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American in 2015, will look to build on a solid freshman campaign that saw the right-hander go 5-1 with a 2.69 ERA in 67 innings pitched.

He tied for the team lead with 64 strikeouts and walked just 14.

The Fort Myers, Florida native landed on the second team All-Conference and All-Freshman teams after lowering his ERA to a league-best 1.01 and limiting opponents to a .186 batting average against conference foes. He ended the season on a tear, winning each of his last four starts and throwing 19.2 consecutive-scoreless innings over three games.

Perfect Game placed Lipscomb fourth on the A-Sun preseason standings, falling behind North Florida, Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson.

The Bisons will open their season with a three-game series against Eastern Kentucky on Feb. 19 at 4 p.m.
