MACON, Ga. – Lipscomb freshman Zeke Dodson has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Baseball Player of the Week after lifting the Bisons to a series victory over USC Upstate with back-to-back walk-off hits over the weekend, announced by the league office Monday.
Dodson raked .385 after collecting five hits in 13 at-bats in his first-ever A-Sun series. He also added five RBI against the Spartans, pushing his season total to 22.
After the Bisons surrendered a 5-run lead late in Saturday’s contest to send the game into extra innings, the Tifton, Georgia native came through in the clutch when he delivered a single through the right side in the bottom of the 10th to bring home Adam Lee and seal the victory for Lipscomb.
On Sunday, the rookie third baseman did it again. With the game knotted 5-5 in the bottom of the ninth, Dodson, almost identical to the day before, pushed a ball through right side of the infield allowing Lee to cross the dish for the game-winning tally as the Bisons rallied to take the series after dropping Friday’s opener.
Dodson closed the week with two multi-hit and two multi-RBI games, giving him seven of each on the season. He has recorded a hit in six of the last 10 games.
He also posted a perfect fielding percentage in 16 chances on the hot-corner.
This award is the first-career weekly honor for Dodson.
Lipscomb returns to action Tuesday when it takes on Belmont in the Battle of the Boulevard. The cross-town rivals will throw the first pitch at 6 p.m. at Ken Dugan Field at Stephen L. Marsh Stadium.
