MACON, Ga. – Lipscomb sophomore Brady Puckett was tabbed Atlantic Sun Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week after his complete game win over Jacksonville in Sunday’s series finale, announced by the league office on Monday.
Puckett needed just 96 pitches to toss his second complete game of the season, and the fourth of his career, in a 9-1 victory over the Dolphins at Ken Dugan Field. The righty earned his league-leading sixth win of the year while surrendering just one unearned run on three hits. The lone run came following an error in the final stanza.
His three hits allowed tied a season low for Puckett.
The 6-foot-8 hurler was in complete control from the game’s very first pitch, retiring the first 11 batters before issuing a four-pitch walk with two outs in the top of the fourth.
Puckett struck out three Dolphins, moving his yearly total to 54, the third most punch outs in the conference.
The weekly honor marks the third time this season, and the fourth of his career, that the Murfreesboro, Tennessee native has earned the distinction.
Lipscomb now has a league-high four Pitcher of the Week honors, as Cody Glenn also was awarded earlier this season.
Puckett leads the A-Sun with 63.2 innings thrown and has lowered his ERA to 2.97.
Jacksonville’s Nathan Disch was Puckett’s counterpart for the co-pitcher of the week after pitching 8.1 scoreless innings against the Bisons on Saturday and tying his career high with eight strikeouts.
Lipscomb returns to action Tuesday when it travels north to face Austin Peay in a 6 p.m. tilt at Raymond C. Hand Park in Clarksville, Tennessee.
