MACON, Ga. – After leading the Lipscomb baseball team to a 6-1 victory on the road at North Florida last Friday, Brady Puckett has been honored as the Atlantic Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday.
The sophomore right-hander did not allow an earned run while tossing all nine innings for his third complete game of the season and the fifth of his career, while picking up his league-leading eighth victory and improving to 8-2. He has now worked at least seven frames in five straight starts and in 10 of his 12 starts this season.
Puckett was sharp from the start, retiring the first 10 Osprey batters on his way to facing just six batters above the minimum.
The 6-foot-8 hurler held the ASUN’s top-offense to just six hits, five of which were singles. He struck out seven batters without issuing a single walk while helping the Bisons halt UNF’s 10-game home win streak.
Puckett now owns the league’s second best ERA after lowering it to 2.70 in the win. He also carries a 2.08 ERA in conference play.
He leads the ASUN in innings pitches (86.2) and strikeouts (82).
The honor is the fourth of the season for the Murfreesboro, Tennessee native and the fifth of his career.
Lipscomb owns five Pitcher of the Week awards this year, which is more than any other team in the league.
The Bisons return to action Tuesday when they host Tennessee Tech at 6 p.m. at Ken Dugan Field.
