NASHVILLE, Tenn. - With opening day less than two weeks away for the 2017 Lipscomb baseball team, junior center fielder Michael Gigliotti is making headlines once again.
The two-time All-Conference selection was named a second team Preseason All-American by D1Baseball, announced on Monday.
Gigliotti has now reeled in three preseason All-America honors, as well as being named the ASUN Conference Preseason Player and Defensive Player of the Year.
The Fort Lauderdale, Florida native collected a conference-leading five triples to go along with his .302 batting clip and .407 on-base percentage.
Gigliotti closed his sophomore campaign with 24 RBI, 31 walks and 15 stolen bases en route to claiming All-ASUN second team honors.
The lefty continues to climb Lipscomb career charts after only two seasons in Nashville. His 32 stolen bases are tied for the sixth most in program history, while his 106 career runs scored are eighth most.
Gigliotti spent this past summer playing for the Falmouth Commodores in the Cape Cod League, where he helped lead the team to its first-ever championship series appearance. At season’s end he was given the Robert A. McNeese Award for the league’s top pro prospect.
Earlier this year Gigliotti was named a First Team Preseason All-American by Baseball America and a Second Team selection by Perfect Game/Rawlings.
He was also rated the No. 13 draft prospect by D1Baseball, the No. 14 prospect by Baseball America and the No. 23 prospect by MLB.com.
The Bisons will open the 2017 season at Dugan Field on February 17 at 4 p.m. with the first of a three-game series against the Oakland Grizzlies. Single-game and season tickets are on sale at LipscombSports.com/tickets.
