LakePoint, Ga. – For the first time this season Lipscomb baseball’s Jeffrey Passantino has been named the ASUN Conference Pitcher of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday.
The junior’s performance helped the Bisons take down Illinois State three times for the program’s first series sweep of the season.
Passantino tossed 7.0 shutout innings on Saturday while limiting the Redbirds to just four hits while picking up his first decision of the season. He faced just three batters above the minimum and retired 13 straight Redbirds before being lifted.
The Fort Myers, Florida native also tied his career high with 10 strikeouts without allowing a single walk. He initially set that career high against Eastern Illinois on Feb. 19, 2016.
Passantino has now thrown three consecutive quality starts and leads the team with a 1.78 ERA.
The honor is the third time in his career the right-hander has been named the league’s pitcher of the week. His last honor came on May 11, 2015 as a freshman when he pitched 8-scoreless frames against Stetson.
Passantino is the second Bison pitcher to bring home the award this season as Brady Puckett earned his sixth career honor in February.
The Bisons are back in action Tuesday when they travel to Middle Tennessee to take on the Blue Raiders in a 6 p.m. tilt.
