Big weekend at FGCU on tap for baseball

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Lipscomb baseball team returns to the Sunshine State this weekend for its final road games of the regular season. The Bisons and Eagles will tangle in three ASUN Conference games at Swanson Stadium.

The series will begin with a 5:30 p.m. first pitch on Friday, before concluding with 1 p.m. and Noon starts on Saturday and Sunday.

Lipscomb (26-20, 8-7 ASUN) ended a six-game win streak on Wednesday with a 14-11 loss to Austin Peay. 

Live stats will be available for all three games, while both tilts on Saturday and Sunday can be seen live on ASUNTV.

  • Lipscomb leads the all-time series with FGCU 17-16. The two teams split four meetings in 2016.
  • The Bisons have drawn 258 free passes this season. That is tops in the ASUN and ninth in the country.
  • Michael Gigliotti ranks fifth nationally and first in the league with 44 walks. Cade Sorrells (35) and Zeke Dodson (32) are third and fifth in the ASUN, respectively.
  • After taking five bases on Wednesday, Lipscomb has a school record 99 steals this season. That is the sixth most in the NCAA. Jackson State leads all teams with 132.
  • Gigliotti and Hunter Hanks carry a 21-game on-base streak into the weekend.
  • Denton Norman leads the team and ranks third in the league with five saves, while his four wins only trail Brady Puckett for the Lipscomb lead.
  • Gigliotti (28) and Lee Solomon (22) ranks sixth and 19th, respectively, in Division I in stolen bases.
  • Jeffrey Passantino leads the ASUN and stands fourth in the country with a 10.13 strikeout to walk ratio.
  • His 0.94 walks allowed per nine innings is ninth.
  • Sorrells leads the Bisons with a .314 average at the dish. His 36 RBI are tied with Jake Perry for the second most in the Bisons.
  • Hunter Hanks has continued his scorching play over the last two months. The senior is tied with Perry for a team high seven home runs, and his 37 RBI are most on the squad.
  • After moving into the weekend rotation, Norman is 2-0. His 0.54 ERA in ASUN action is second among all league players. He has given up just one run in 16.2 innings against league foes.
  • Hanks leads all ASUN players in league action with 23 RBI and 42 total bases. His five homers and .667 slugging rank second.
  • Gigliotti has posted a .494 on-base percentage in ASUN play – the second best total in the conference.


The Bisons return to the Music City next week for their final four games of the 2017 regular season. They will host Austin Peay at 1 p.m. on Tuesday before Stetson comes in for three contests beginning on Thursday.
