ABCA honors Gigliotti with prestigious Gold Glove Award

GREENSBORO, N.C. – After collecting a shelf full of awards over the course of his career as a Lipscomb Bison, junior outfielder Michael Gigliotti picked up the most prestigious honor yet on Wednesday as he was named an American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings Sporting Goods Gold Glove winner.

“This is such a great honor for Michael,” said Lipscomb head coach Jeff Forehand. “He is such a good defender in center field.  I’m glad others recognized him as one of the best outfielders in the country, something that all of us that get to see him every day have known for a long time.”

The Ft. Lauderdale, Florida native earned one of the three outfielder positions on the 9-member team that features the top defensive players in the nation. Gigliotti posted a .994 fielder percentage this past season for the Bisons before being drafted in the fourth round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Kansas City Royals. He made just one error in 174 attempts notching 170 putouts and gunning down three runners as the ASUN Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Awards are selected by ABCA coaches committees at each level: NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division, and High School.
