NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Game 3 of the Purple and Gold World Series was dominated by Lipscomb’s pitching. However, sophomore Chris Bashlor broke through with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth to power Team Purple to a 1-0 victory over Team Black.
Nonetheless, Team Black will still enjoy a steak dinner for its series victory after defeating Team Purple on both Wednesday and Thursday.
Purple managed just two hits, but Bashlor’s deep shot over the center field wall proved to be as much offense as the team’s pitching staff would need. Lee Solomon had the team's only other base knock - a single in the fifth.
JUCO transfer Chris Kachmar pitched four scoreless innings for Team Purple, and he allowed just two hits while striking out 7 batters.
Purple’s Ryan Stevens tossed a clean fifth inning, before Chipola Community College transfer Robbie Knox sealed the win with scoreless frames in the sixth and seventh.
Team Black managed just three hits on the afternoon, two of which came off the bat of Von Watson – the hero in the first two games of the series.
Freshman Noah Thompson went four scoreless innings for Team Black and allowed just two walks while striking out five batters.
The series wrapped Lipscomb’s fall practice schedule. The Bisons will be back in action on Feb. 16, when they open the 2018 season against UNC-Asheville.
