NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tyler Guilfoil has been named the ASUN Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week after helping the Bisons pick up two wins over the last week, announced by the league office on Monday.
The freshman right-hander made an impressive collegiate debut as the starting pitcher in Lipscomb’s 3-1 win over Western Kentucky. The Lexington, Kentucky native threw five shutout innings giving up one hit, one walk and struck out nine batters.
Guilfoil faced just three batters above the minimum in what would be the first win of his collegiate career.
Guilfoil made his second appearance of the season out of the bullpen in Lipscomb’s 13-5 win over Western Michigan on Sunday to wrap up the SAF Dirt Classic.
Guilfoil was brought on in the fifth inning after the Broncos had cut the Bisons five-run lead down to a one-run lead and the freshman delivered again. Guilfoil stayed on the hill for the rest of the game and eliminated any signs of a comeback from Western Michigan giving up one hit, one run and struck out six batters.
He threw 41 pitches, 29 for strikes, over four innings to cross of another milestone picking up the first save in his young career.
For the season, Guilfoil is 1-0 with an ERA of 1.00, which leads the team and is the seventh best mark in the ASUN. He also leads the team in strikeouts and is third in the conference with 15. His K/9 ratio is the best in the ASUN at 15.00.
Guilfoil is the first Bisons player to bring home a weekly award this season and is the first Lipscomb pitcher to be honored with this award since Norman Denton was named pitcher of the week on May 1, 2017.
The Bisons take the diamond this weekend with a three-game series versus Xavier at Dugan Field. Friday’s first pitch is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start, Saturday will have a 2 p.m. start and Sunday’s finale will get under way at 1 p.m.
