COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Lipscomb baseball team dropped the series opener with Ohio State 14-3 Friday night at Bill Davis Stadium.
The Bisons (9-7) see their winning streak come to an end at five games, while the Buckeyes (8-9) end their five-game losing streak.
Ohio State jumped on Lipscomb’s pitching early and took a 6-0 lead after the fourth inning. In the fifth inning Ohio State opened the game up by hanging seven runs on the scoreboard. The Buckeyes sent 12 batters to the plate in the fifth and did the damage with extra bases hits scoring on a two-run homer, two doubles and a triple.
In total, the Bisons pitching staff allowed seven walks and gave up 18 hits. Staring pitcher Chris Kachmar suffered his first lost of the season.
The Purple and Gold were held in check at the plate only managing three hits on the day. Brian Moore hit a solo home run in the fifth inning for the first run and hit of the game for Lipscomb and Carson Wright was able to drive in two runs with a single to center in the sixth.
AROUND THE HORN:
- The leadoff man for the Buckeyes reached base in every inning except for the second and third.
- This was the most runs scored by Ohio State in a home-opener in 12 years.
- Moore’s home run was his first of the season.
- Tyler Sills made his longest appearance on the season going 3.1 innings and struck out six batters in a relief appearance.
The Bisons and Buckeyes will hit the diamond tomorrow to continue the weekend series with a 2 p.m. (CST) start time. Sunday’s finale will begin at noon.
