Bisons Host Texas Southern In Non-Conference Weekend Series

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb baseball team will host Texas Southern for a non-conference series this weekend at Dugan Field.

The series is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. on Friday, but with poor weather predicted game times may be changed.

The Bisons (15-17, 3-6 ASUN) are coming off two losses during the week to Southeastern Conference members Tennessee and Kentucky. Lipscomb fell to Tennessee in Knoxville on Tuesday 11-2 and lost to Kentucky 6-2 at Dugan Field on Wednesday.

All three games with Texas Southern will be broadcast on Facebook Live via the Lipscomb Baseball page. Live stats will be available as well.

Friday – RHP Chris Kachmar (4-2, 4.50 ERA) vs. TBD

Saturday – LHP Noah Thompson (0-4, 7.71 ERA) vs. TBD

Sunday – RHP Joshua Colon (1-3, 4.18 ERA) vs. TBD

  • The Tigers come into the contest with an 11-22 overall record and are 7-8 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play.
  • The Tigers lost their only midweek matchup against Oklahoma 10-2 on Tuesday in Norman.
  • Over the last 10 games Texas Southern has played .500-baseball going 5-5.
  • The leading hitter for the Tigers is senior outfielder Keanu Van Kuren. He leads the team in a number of different categories that included batting average (.322), at-bats (121), hits (39) and doubles (10).
  • As a team, the Tigers have an 8.41 ERA. Aron Solis has made eight appearances on the season with seven starts and a 5.59 ERA. The senior has thrown two complete games, with one shutout, and leads the team with 59 strikeouts, which 28 more than the next best mark on the squad.

  • The Bisons are currently on a five-game losing streak after getting swept by FGCU last weekend and dropping two midweek matchups earlier in the week.
  • The Bisons offense has struggled over the last three games only scoring six runs off of 19 hits.
  • Lipscomb does however have five players hitting .300 or better on the season in Maddux Houghton, Chris Bashlor, Zeke Dodson, Cade Sorrells and Josh Martinez.
  • Houghton leads the squad with a .364 batting average, which is the fourth-best mark in the ASUN.
  • Sorrells leads the Purple and Gold with 34 RBI and four home runs on the season.
  • Bashlor’s .337 batting average ranks second on the squad and eighth in the ASUN.
  • Chris Kachmar has been solid all year long for the Bisons pitching staff. The senior right-hander has solidified his role as the Friday starter and leads the team in strikeouts (47) and innings pitched (44.0)
  • Noah Thompson seems to be getting his groove back after a slow start to the season. In his last start against FGCU the sophomore went 5.1 innings and allowed to earned runs on three hits with three strikeouts.

Lipscomb will close out a five-game home stand with a midweek matchup against Middle Tennessee on April 16 with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.

This will be the second time this season the Bisons and Blue Raiders have met. Lipscomb picked up an 8-6 victory in 11 innings the first time the two ball clubs met on March 19.
